Detectives are appealing for information after an attempt was made to rob a man of his jewellery in the Belgrave area yesterday.
Police received a call at around 7.15pm last night (Wednesday 29 March) that a man was being robbed in Cossington Recreation Ground, which is located in Rendell Road.
Officer attended the location but after an area search, the suspects were not found.
They located the victim nearby who told them he was returning to his car when he approached by two men before he was punched and kicked.
He was pulled to the ground and further assaulted after he refused to hand over his jewellery they demanded from him.
The men ran off shortly after across the park in the direction of Cossington Park Surgery. One them was believed to have been carrying a machete type weapon.
Detective Constable Jason Waterworth is the investigating officer.
He said: “The victim thankfully did not sustain any injuries after being left with cuts and bruises.
“Once officers arrived at the scene, there were a number of people still on the recreation ground who may witnessed what happened.
“I would urge anyone who may have seen this incident or have any information about it to get in touch.
“The information you know could be of great importance to our investigation so I would ask that you please get in touch.”
