Officers have named a man who died after a collision in Leicester Road, Anstey, on Saturday morning (18 March).
Police had been called to the area at 10.31am by East Midlands Ambulance Service who were in attendance at the collision which involved a black BMW car.
Kieran Andrews, 26, was travelling as a passenger in the car, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another man who was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries but has since been released from hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was reported to have left the scene following the collision and an appeal was made by detectives to locate the driver. A man who is believed to have been the driver of the car has since contacted police.
The 22-year-old man, of Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision. He has since been released on police bail.
Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
Kieran’s family issued the following statement. Kieran was a loving son, brother and uncle to his nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed. Taken far too soon.
Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped us so far, both at the time of the collision and contacting us with information following our appeal.
“We continue to provide support to the family of the man who has sadly lost his life and our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the collision.”
