A policing operation to facilitate a peaceful anti-racism protest in the city centre has concluded.
Members of the Stand Up to Racism organisation and others gathered in The Clock Tower earlier this afternoon with the aim of promoting the city as a safe and welcoming place for all.
In the last hour those attending the gathering have left the area and the policing operation has concluded.
We would like to thank everyone for their co-operation and support while the operation was ongoing.
Chief Superintendent Shane O’Neill, said: “There will continue to be a police presence in the city with local officers to reassure the local community and those visiting the area.
“We continue to reiterate to everyone – please do not share information that may be false. There is a lot of false information circulating on social media pertaining to events or misinformation about crimes and it is vital that we do not give this fake news any traction.”
If anyone has any concerns they are encouraged to speak to officers in the area or contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Area, via 101 or www.leics.police.uk
