Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an attempt was made to steal cash from an ATM in West Knighton.
Shortly after 3.30am today (Wednesday 7 August), a report was received that an ATM in Shackerdale Road – at the junction of Asquith Boulevard – had been damaged.
Two cars were reported to have been seen parked next to it, but both had left before police arrived.
As those officers attending could hear and smell gas, a cordon and road closures were put in place, with support being provided by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
It is not believed that any money was taken from the ATM.
DS Jag Singh, from Counties CID, said: “While our investigation is in its early stages, I’d urge anyone who can help to contact police.
“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone with a doorbell or CCTV camera at their address or who saw or heard people acting in a manner that seemed unusual or suspicious. I’d also appeal for any motorists who were in the area and captured anything on a dashcam.”
