Officers are patrolling the city centre and liaising with those attending a gathering in The Clock Tower area this afternoon (Saturday 10 August).
Stand up to Racism, and others, are holding a peaceful gathering in the area with the aim of promoting the city as a safe and welcoming place for all.
We will continue to engage with those attending and ensure the wider community are able to go about their daily business without any issues.
We would like to reiterate to everyone – please do not share information that may be false. There is a lot of false information circulating on social media pertaining to events or misinformation about crimes and it is vital that we do not give this fake news any traction.
Chief Superintendent Shane O’Neill, said: “The purpose of the policing operation this afternoon is to ensure those gathering at the event and the wider public in the city are able to continue peacefully and without any concerns.
“We would ask that people only share factual information from genuine sources and not to speculate.
“We would also like to thank the community for their support and understanding over the last few weeks.”
If anyone has any concerns they are encouraged to speak to officers in the area or contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Area, via 101 or www.leics.police.uk
