A specialist diving team is searching a section of the River Soar today (Monday) as part of ongoing enquiries following an incident in Evington Road which happened in November last year.
The pre-planned search is currently being carried out in the water near Charles Bennion Walk, Leicester. The towpath alongside is currently closed at this time to members of the public - please find alternative routes.
The search is being undertaken to identify any potential further evidence which may assist ongoing enquiries.
Police were called to Evington Road at 11.20pm on Wednesday 22 November last year following a report that two men had been shot as they walked along the road close to the junction with Chepstow Road, Leicester.
Both men were taken to hospital following the incident. They have since been discharged.
Four men have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. A further two men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. The men have all been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Hazel Sandall, from the force’s Complex Investigation Unit, said: “We are continuing to ensure we explore all lines of enquiry in this ongoing investigation. This water search today is part of that. Please be assured this has been planned in advance and is part of our ongoing work to establish the full circumstances of the incident which happened in Evington Road last November.
“We do however continue to appeal to you, the public, for your help too. If you know something or have heard something, please get in contact with us. It is not too late to speak to us.
“Thank you to everyone who has assisted us so far for your support and co-operation with us.”
