Detectives are investigating the death of a man on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire.
Police received a call shortly before 3.20am today (Friday 22 March) to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV on the southbound carriageway of the M1 – close to junction 22.
It was also reported that prior to the collision the man was on the bridge in Forest Road and Stoney Lane, Markfield.
East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The motorway remains closed in both directions between junction 21a and 22 northbound and 22 and 21 southbound while the incident is dealt with.
Officers are in the early stage of their investigation and are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen the man standing over the bridge or witnessed the incident. Anyone who was driving past junction 22 of the M1 is also asked to check their dash cam for any footage that may assist with the investigation.
