Detectives are appealing for information following three armed robberies at stores in Leicester.
The first incident happened at Tesco in Blaby Road, Wigston, at around 11.55pm on Thursday (10 October), the second incident happened at Tesco in Ethel Road, Evington, at around 9.40pm yesterday (Friday) and the third incident was reported at Sainsbury’s, near Fosse Park in Enderby at 9.25am today (Saturday).
The incidents are currently being treated as linked by police.
Two men are reported to have entered the stores at separate times before attempting to leave without paying for bottles of alcohol. When challenged by staff at the stores, it is reported that threats have been made. At the Tesco stores, it is reported that threats were made with a handgun. At the Sainsbury’s store, it is reported, threats were made with a knife and a gun. The suspects are then reported to have left the scenes with bottles of alcohol.
No serious injuries have been reported in the incidents.
Full enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incidents and to find the people responsible.
Detective Inspector George Fraser said: “These incidents are extremely concerning and we are treating this investigation as a priority. We have a dedicated team carrying out full enquiries with support being provided to the victims involved.
“We have been speaking to a number of witnesses, are fully analysing CCTV from the areas and have officers carrying out enquiries at the scenes. We also want to appeal to members of the public for any information you might have.
“Please think back to if you were in or near any of the stores mentioned around the times of the incidents. Did you see anything which caused you concern? Or do you have any dashcam footage from the area which could hold vital information? Please get in touch with us as soon as you can if you have any information which could help?
“We understand there will be concern in our communities following these incidents. Please be assured we are working to find those responsible as quickly as possible. Please do speak with us regarding any information or concerns that you have. We will provide further updates to you when we are able to.”
