A driver involved in a single-car collision on the A607 near East Goscote has died.
Police were called to the incident, which involved a black Alpha Romeo Giulia, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday (11 September).
The collision happened near the villages of East Goscote and Queniborough, close to the roundabout with Melton Road,
The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital following the collision where he remained in a critical condition. Sadly, the man passed away in hospital yesterday (Friday).
A male passenger, also in his 20s, was also taken to hospital. He has since been discharged.
The vehicle had been travelling towards the city when it left the road and came to a stop down a steep embankment.
An investigation into the collision remains ongoing and police continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen the car travelling prior to the collision. They are also appealing for any dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
Detective Constable Paul Hicks, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We issued an appeal in relation to the collision on Thursday. Sadly, the driver who remained in a critical condition has since passed away in hospital. Our thoughts at this time remain with his family and his friends and officers continue to provide full support.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. The car joined the A607 from the Queniborough roundabout and had only travelled around 200 metres before the incident occurred.
“We are working to establish why the car left the road and would urge anyone who thinks they may have seen the car being driven beforehand or captured footage on a dashcam to make contact. Similarly, if you saw the incident but haven’t yet spoken to police please come forward.”
