Police are continuing to investigate after a woman was found dead inside a house in Thurnby Lodge, Leicester.
At 3.40am yesterday (Sunday 12 January), police were called to St Austell Road by the East Midlands Ambulance Service after a 33-year-old woman was declared deceased.
Officers attended the scene, and an investigation was launched to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
The exact cause of the woman’s death is unclear. A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the results were inconclusive. Further tests will now be carried out.
As part of enquiries, a 29-year man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident. The man has been released on police bail while this work is carried out. The woman has been released with no further action.
The scene preservation at the house in St Austell Road has now also been lifted.
The woman’s family continue to be supported by officers.
Due to prior police contact, a mandatory referral has also been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Detective Inspector Mark Parish, who is currently leading the investigation, said: “A woman was sadly found dead inside an address in St Austell Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.
“It is currently unclear exactly how the woman died but officers are working to understand exactly what has occurred and determine if someone was responsible for her death.
“Following the post-mortem examination, it is still not clear how the woman has died so further tests will now be needed.
“The arrested man has been released on bail while these tests are completed and detectives continue to carry out other enquiries.
“I would continue to ask that people don’t speculate about what may have occurred – we are continuing to work to understand exactly what has happened and will provide an update when we are able to.”
