Driver arrested as detectives investigate collision near Wigston

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital and a driver has been arrested following a collision near Wigston this morning (Friday 17 January).

Police were called a stretch of the A5199 Welford Road, between Kilby and the River Sence, just before 6.30am after it was reported a lorry had collided with a man.

The pedestrian, who is in his 20s, has been taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He remains in custody.

Detective Constable Paul Hicks, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “Our enquiries are still in their early stages, but I’d like to speak to anyone who can help with our investigation.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to other motorists with a dashcam or anyone who saw the collision. I’d also ask anyone who saw either the lorry or pedestrian prior to it occurring to make contact. Anything you’re able to tell us could be important.”
