Over the last couple of months, a number of people have appeared in Leicester’s courts and charged by Leicestershire Police.

 

Teen jailed for sexual assault

A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced at court after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two women in Newfoundpool last year.

Sarju Khushal

A man, who was known to supply controlled drugs across Leicestershire on a ‘wholesale’ level, has been jailed.

In 2022 information was received in relation to the supply of controlled drugs which were being transported from the Lancashire area into Leicestershire.

During those enquiries detectives from East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) arrested 30-year-old Sarju Khushal and after searches of his home, officers recovered a large quantity of class A and B drugs, drugs paraphernalia, numerous devices and cash.

Antanas Jancevskis

A man who climbed through the window of a flat and raped a woman he first met just hours earlier has been jailed.

Antanas Jancevskis and his victim had both attended a barbecue in the area of Leicester’s Glenfield Road on 17 April 2022.

That night she was taken home by two friends and went to sleep on her sofa. However that night she woke to find 35-year-old Jancevskis lying on the sofa with her, where he subsequently raped her.

Gagandeep Gulati

A rapist who preyed on a young woman during a night out has been jailed after he was caught on CCTV thanks to a detective’s perseverance.

In September last year, Gagandeep Gulati found his victim alone in Leicester’s Jubilee Square.

He approached her and coerced her into going to Castle Gardens, where he raped and sexually assaulted her. He videoed the incident on his phone and sent clips to other people.

Teens convicted of manslaughter

Two teenagers have been found guilty of the manslaughter of an 80-year-old man who was attacked while walking his dog.

Bhim Kohli died following an incident in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, during the early evening of Sunday 1 September last year.

Youth charged after murder in Braunstone Frith

A 16-year-old youth has been charged with murder following an incident in Braunstone Frith.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded and he is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday 12 April).

Patrick Campbell

A paedophile who preyed on teenage boys has been jailed for a string of child sex offences.

Twenty-five-year-old Patrick Campbell sexually abused four boys between 2022 and 2024.

On 28 February, following a trial at Leicester Crown Court, Campbell was found guilty of eight counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Eight jailed for drugs offences

A policing operation which uncovered drug dealing gangs operating between Leicestershire and the West Midlands has led to eight men being jailed.

Evidence gathered over a year by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit led to the discovery of the two groups, based in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and in the West Midlands, who were involved in the collection, distribution and sale of class A drugs.

CCTV footage obtained during a rape investigation has led to two men being jailed for nine years each.

In October 2023 a report was made in relation to a young woman who had been subjected to a serious sexual assault after a night out in the city.

A 35-year-old man has appeared at court after being charged with sexual offences.

Zakira Jawaid

A Leicester man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was arrested at a Post Office sending cocaine through the mail.

Zakira Jawaid was jailed at Leicester Crown Court yesterday (Monday 28 April) after pleading guilty in February to supplying class A drugs between 23 September 2021 and 8 November 2024.
