Four teenage girls have been arrested following four robberies in the Belgrave area last week.

As part of ongoing enquiries, detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents or have captured dash cam footage.

Two of the incidents occurred on Monday 6 April and another two on Tuesday 7 April.

At around 7.15pm on Monday, a teenage girl, who was with two other girls, was threatened and her e-scooter was stolen while close to the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre, in Loughborough Road.

At 8.30pm, a woman in her 20s had her mobile phone stolen as she cycled through Rushey Fields. During the incident the woman was she also hit in the face suffering cuts to her face. Her phone has since been recovered.

The following day, at around 5pm, a woman in her 80s had her purse stolen while walking in Melton Road – close to the Shreen Hanuman Temple.

She was pushed to the floor during the incident and suffered a broken pelvis. She has taken to hospital and has since been discharged to a rehabilitation facility.

A few hours later, at 7.15pm, a teenage girl was hit in the face and pushed to the floor before her bag was stolen while also in Melton Road – at the junction with Troon Way. The woman suffered grazing and bruising to her arms and legs.

The teenagers – aged 13, 14 and two aged 17 – have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

DC Zaeema Osman, officer in the case, said: “Four robberies took place within 24 hours in the Belgrave area and one resulted in an elderly lady suffering a serious injury and will now spend weeks in a rehabilitation centre.

“The incidents are being treated as linked and we have made a number of arrests. The four girls have been bailed while our investigations continue. As part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who was in the areas at the times these incidents occurred or was driving past and may have captured dash cam footage.

“Local officers are carrying out patrols in the area and anyone with concerns or information can speak to them. Information can also be provided by calling 101 reporting online.”
