Prolific burglar who stole nine cars during a crime spree jailed

A prolific offender who committed a series of burglaries across the force area, stealing several cars, was jailed on Friday (30 January).

Between January and March last year Theo Ramsey stole nine cars after stealing the car keys from inside the properties.

Offences were committed in Fleckney, Broughton Astley, Countesthorpe, Narborough, Leicester, Coalville, Syston, Belton, Market Harborough, Kirby Muxloe and Oakham.

After a lengthy investigation, 19-year-old Ramsey formerly of New Fields Avenue, Leicester, was identified as being involved after CCTV enquiries and phone work placed him at the scene of the offences.

At a hearing in December last year Ramsey pleaded guilty to twelve counts of burglary, nine counts of theft of motor vehicle and two counts of attempted burglary. 

He also pleaded guilty to possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, attempted theft of a motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle.

On Friday he was jailed for six years for all the offences and will serve his sentence at a Young Offender Institution (YOI).

Detective Constable Billie-Jo Kent was the investigating officer, she said: “The majority of the offences Ramsey committed were overnight while the occupants were asleep in their beds.  The incidents were extremely distressing for the victims.

“Their homes were entered and their prize possessions were stolen.  Many of the cars Ramsey stole were high-value prestigious vehicles. 

“The evidence against Ramsey was overwhelming, so he had no choice but to plead guilty.

“We hope this outcome reassures the victims and the wider public, we do take these offences seriously and we will bring people to justice.”
