Our Degree in Professional Policing route is currently closed. Register your details and we will let you know when applications re-open.
If you want to study first, you can do a three year Degree in Professional Policing (DiPP) at a participating university at your own expense. This route may sometimes be referred to as pre-join.
Over the three-year university course, you will gain the knowledge and academic theory behind professional policing. Once you’ve successfully completed the course, you can then apply to join us as a new police officer, putting the theory you’ve learned into practice.
Successful achievement of the Degree in Professional Policing doesn't guarantee you'll be offered a probationary police constable role with us. We (as each force does) have our own entry requirements, recruitment process and selection policy which you will need to pass.
Upon joining us, you will undergo a two-year training programme, during which time you will complete mandatory training such as personal safety and first aid. At the end you will be signed off as a fully competent police officer.
Visit the Joining the Police website for further information on the Degree in Professional Policing route.
