Chelle Ainsbury has worked in customer service since she was sixteen and had always enjoyed talking to a mix of different people.
“I love people and being able to help them, at what might be the most horrendous times of their lives, is something I take pride in and being a call handler with the police enables me to do that.”
Chelle joined us three years ago [2020] as a Contact Handler just as the pandemic started. She felt that working for a force that serves such a diverse area would make the job really interesting as she would be helping people of all ages, backgrounds, wealth and social standing.
“The thing I enjoy most about the job is the people – both those who contact us and my colleagues. Getting a ‘thank you’ from a caller is so rewarding. I work with a great team and the job is challenging at times but as a team we support each other.
“I would tell anyone who is thinking about becoming a call handler to just do it! I have worked in many environments but the contact management department is by far the best. You get the best feel good factor when you help someone knowing they can go about their day safely and the support in the workplace is second to none.
“I love my job and it is a place where I feel I can be ‘me’ where my lifestyle choices are supported.”
