“You do not need to be a police officer to change lives; whatever role you do within the force, you still make a positive change.”
Samira is the Branch Leader of the Christian Police Association (CPA), and a member of the Black Police Association (BPA) and the Women’s Inclusive Network (WIN). She is eager to ensure people gain a sense of belonging and that faith and policing can be positively connected together.
Samira has spent her career working in a range of sectors; from law and finance to recruitment and conveyancing. It was in October 2018 she joined Leicestershire Police to establish herself within a role which, not only gave her a sense of purpose, but the opportunity to group together all her skills and knowledge to give back to others.
Her initial role within the force was as an HR Project Administrator, Samira then took up the position of Business Improvement Officer. This role is to encourage the continued improvement of processes, products and systems for staff and the communities we serve.
But that’s not all; Samira also works as a telephone researcher in the evenings conducting user satisfaction surveys with victims of crime. The surveys are used to enable the force to learn from people’s experiences.
Additionally, she was keen to find out how she could support staff through improving their well-being so put herself forward to be a Change Ambassador, she took the initiative to develop a choir to sing at festive events. Alongside choir practice, Samira is known for running workshops to help staff build their confidence around being able to sing publically.
To anyone thinking of a career in policing, Samira advises to take that leap of faith! Working within the force, you can be a part of a culture that embraces your passion and encourages you to further yourself in both your career and personal life.
So what does the future hold for Samira? Having already made positive changes within the force, she will continue to do this while participating in activities outside of her working role, and continue building her career within the force hoping for it to be a longstanding one.
