The beat team to deal with issues of road safety and speeding in Charnwood West villages. If you believe that there is an issue in your area, let the beat team know.

During May, our focus has been on strengthening engagement with local partners to address road safety concerns and identify emerging speeding hotspots across the beat area. This has been done through foot patrols in impacted areas, attending Parish Council Meetings to establish areas of concerned as identified by residents and reviewing submissions through Neighbourhood Link.
Enforcement still continues in our current hot spots. While conducting targeted speed enforcement patrols on Swithland Lane, Rothley, officers located a stolen vehicle that had crashed at the roadside. Subsequent enquiries established that the vehicle had been reported shortly beforehand for being driven dangerously on Bird Hill, Woodhouse Eaves.
This proactive patrol work led to the Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer arresting three suspects on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, demonstrating a clear link between road safety activity and wider crime detection.

Addressing speeding concerns remains a priority for the NL56 Beat Team. A speed enforcement operation was planned during August; however, this had to be postponed as officers were diverted to other policing duties on the date of the operation. The Beat Team has also experienced reduced availability during the month due to annual leave commitments. Despite this, work continues to address community concerns around speeding. The Charnwood Neighbourhood Policing Area has recently secured two new speed detection devices, and Beat Team officers will be receiving training to use the TruCAM II speed enforcement equipment. This will enhance our ability to carry out targeted speed enforcement in areas identified through intelligence and reports from local residents. We will continue to monitor concerns and use the new equipment to support future enforcement activity aimed at improving road safety across the beat.

The beat team aim to tackle incidences of ASB within the villages including the parks and beauty spots of Charnwood West utilising ASB and civil legislation and patrols in locations identified as subject to ASB.

Extensive work continues to tackle ASB on Kinchley Lane- the current top spot for ASB across Charnwood West. There is a significant increase in vehicle related ASB in the area, and the DNO team have been engaging with County Councils across the country as well as other police forces to seek inspiration on how to create long term solution for this issue. Patrols, intervention and engagement continue in the area as well as the surrounding villages to encourage those impact to report ASB online where possible.

Tackling anti-social behaviour has remained a priority across the NL56 beat throughout August. Although the planned Horsefair event did not go ahead, officers continued to carry out high-visibility patrols and maintain a visible presence in the area to provide reassurance to the community. During the month, reports were received of groups of youths starting fires in the area. The Beat Team has liaised with those reporting ASB, providing updates and gathering information to support ongoing enquiries. In addition, two joint agency patch walks were carried out in Quorn in response to ASB concerns raised by residents, enabling issues to be identified and addressed alongside partner agencies. Patrols have been directed to affected locations and efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible. Where perpetrators are identified, the Beat Team will follow an incremental approach, working with partners where appropriate and considering the most suitable interventions and enforcement options to prevent further incidents and reduce the impact on the community

The beat team will deal with incidences of drug use and dealing across the beat area. Patrolling identified areas, utilising stop search powers where available and develop intelligence to allow us to target dealing within your area.

Throughout August, neighbourhood policing activity on the NL56 beat has remained focused on tackling issues that matter most to the local community. Officers have continued to carry out high-visibility patrols, engage with residents, and respond to concerns raised by members of the public. This month, beat team colleagues assisted with three stop and searches, which resulted in a male being found in possession of drugs. This positive outcome demonstrates our ongoing commitment to disrupting criminality and addressing drug-related activity within the area. We have also been strengthening relationships with partner agencies to support longer-term problem solving. This has included working closely with housing associations to discuss tenancy breaches and identify opportunities to address behaviour that is having a negative impact on local communities. We will continue to work alongside partner organisations and local residents to make the NL56 beat a safer place to live, work, and visit.
