RURAL THEFTS: Through feedback received at beat surgeries, community engagement events and ongoing discussions with local residents, the community has identified farm machinery and equipment thefts as a priority concern across the Melton Rural South Beat.
Issued 01 October 2026
The beat team has developed a strong understanding of what to look out for and, working in partnership with the Rural Policing Team, is actively carrying out patrols to deter criminal activity and identify those responsible for thefts across the area.
Rural crime on the beat has reduced, which is a positive result, but we remain committed to maintaining both day and night patrols. As we move into the shorter days and darker nights, we will continue working to protect our rural communities and business owners, ensuring a visible presence and tackling crime proactively.

ROAD SAFETY: Through reports received via Neighbourhood Link, social media accounts, beat surgeries and community engagement events, residents have raised road safety as a key priority across the Melton Rural South Beat. Concerns have focused primarily on speeding vehicles, dangerous driving and the number of road traffic collisions occurring on rural roads.
Issued 01 October 2026
Your local beat team is committed to reducing road casualties by responding to live incidents, proactively dealing with traffic offences and carrying out targeted operations in higher-risk areas identified through community feedback and police data. Officers continue to conduct high-visibility patrols, speed enforcement and engagement with road users to encourage safer driving behaviours.
As we move out of the summer months and into autumn and winter, we will continue to increase proactive activity aimed at preventing serious injury and loss of life on our roads. With changing weather conditions, reduced daylight hours and more challenging driving conditions ahead, we encourage all road users to take extra care and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

DRUGS: Through feedback received at beat surgeries, community engagements and ongoing conversations with residents, the community has identified drug taking and suspected drug-related activity as a priority concern across the Melton Rural South Beat.
Issued 01 October 2026
To address concerns around drug use and suspected drug activity in rural areas, PC Tranter and PCSOs French and Wittering continue to conduct targeted patrols at locations across the beat where intelligence suggests drug use may be taking place. Information provided by local residents, alongside police intelligence gathering, helps us build a clearer picture of potential drug dealing and supply within our communities. As a result of this information, officers have carried out a number of Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act searches at identified locations. We encourage members of the public to continue reporting any concerns regarding drug-related activity, as community information remains vital in helping us tackle this issue and keep our rural areas safe.
