I have recently just started on the Melton rural south beat and this is something completely new to me, if you see me out and about please don’t hesitate to pop over and say hello.

I have been a PCSO with Leicestershire Police for 5 years. Prior to this I was a qualified Funeral Director and Bereavement Consellor for 25 years. I was then a writer for 10 years and am the author of a 7 book spy thriller series.

I have been a police officer for over 14 years, most of that time as a response officer and more recently as a local beat officer. I have a background in firearms licensing and worked mainly in rural communities.

I have served with Leicestershire Police for 25 years, becoming a sergeant in 2015. My experience includes a range of roles, from response policing to working as a custody sergeant within the Criminal Justice Department. Over the past year, I have supervised response policing for Melton and Rutland from Melton Mowbray Police Station. I am now looking forward to becoming part of the Melton Neighbourhood team and contributing to local community policing in a new way.

Hello, I’m Inspector Rowan Paterson Bell the Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander for Melton and Rutland.
I’ve been a police officer for 22 years, with a varied career largely spent in the north of the county, starting my career at Syston and then moving to Loughborough when the area became Charnwood. I’m a qualified detective and have worked at East Leicester in CID and the force Domestic abuse investigation team.
As a resident of the Borough, I have a real personal stake in rural policing and effective crime prevention. You can expect a strong focus on visibility, engagement, and tackling the issues that matter most to you.

    Action taken:

The beat team have learnt what to look out for and in conjunction with the Rural Policing Team are out deterring and looking to catch thieves working the area.
The level of rural crime has reduced on the beat but we will continue the patrols day and night and look to be out to protect our rural business community as we enter the spring / summer months.

  • Priority:

ROAD SAFETY Through Neighbourhood Link, and Social media accounts the community have raised the issue of Road Safety issues on the NR30 beat area. Specifically speeding vehicles and collisions.
The weather has been the cause of road traffic collisions on the beat over the last few weeks - reduced visibility and lack of traction.

    Issued 25 June 2026

    Action taken:

Your beat team are working to reduce road casualties - we respond to live incidents, work pro-actively to deal with traffic offences and set up operations in higher risk areas.
As we enter spring / summer months there will be an increase in pro-activity to prevent loss of life and injury on the road.

    Actioned 25 June 2026

  • Priority:

DRUGS: Through feedback from beat surgeries and community engagements the community have raised the issue of drug taking on the Melton Rural South Beat.

    Issued 25 June 2026

    Action taken:

PC Tranter and PCSO French use patrols to visit rural locations on the beat where drug use is noted.
We receive information from the public as well as police led intel gathering to build a picture around dealing and supply.

    Actioned 26 June 2026
