With the darker nights approaching and daylight hours reducing, we have historically seen an increase in burglary offences across the policing area, particularly within Heathley Park and surrounding residential neighbourhoods. Analysis of previous years has shown that offenders often take advantage of longer periods of darkness, reduced natural surveillance, and unoccupied properties during the evening hours.
Our objective over the autumn and winter period is to reduce burglary offences, identify and disrupt offenders, increase public confidence, and provide a visible policing presence that reassures the communities of Heathley Park that burglary remains a local policing priority.

We have received concerns from retailers and Security at the Beaumont Leys Shopping centre that there is still a significant problem with Anti-social Behaviour caused by youths
Issued 01 October 2026
Beat surgeries have been conducted at Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre, providing officers with the opportunity to engage with local businesses and members of the public regarding issues affecting the area. These events proved productive, offering valuable insight into current community concerns whilst maintaining a visible and reassuring policing presence.
A multi-agency meeting was also held involving Leicester City Council, Beaumont Shopping Centre management, and representatives from the neighbourhood policing team to discuss those young people linked to recent incidents of anti-social behaviour. A joint approach was agreed, focusing on the individuals causing the greatest concern and developing longer-term solutions to address their behaviour.
Follow-up action has since been undertaken, with officers conducting visits to two of the young people identified. Both were given words of advice and warned regarding their behaviour. Further visits are planned, alongside the exploration of alternative provisions and diversionary activities aimed at preventing young people from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and encouraging positive engagement within the community.
In addition, officers have arrested several suspects for a range of offences. One prolific juvenile offender has been charged with multiple offences committed at the shopping centre. The court has released him on strict bail conditions designed to prevent further offending at the location.
Moving forward The new Beaumont Leys People Zone, is in process to create sustainable youth provisions across the ward to reduce ASB.
