Leicestershire Police has a duty to obtain and use a wide variety of information (including personal information) in order to discharge its responsibilities effectively. In compliance with the requirements of the statutory Code of Practice for the Management of Police Information, and associated Authorised Professional Practice for Information Management, the Force has adopted an Information Management Strategy.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that Leicestershire Police have a robust and efficient response to the investigation, administration and return of stolen vehicles. This replaces the previous arrangements, where an owner opted whether or not to allow their vehicle to be forensically examined. Upon recovery of a stolen vehicle it may require forensic examination to maximise the investigative opportunities and the potential for detection and apprehension of the offender. There are occasions when a death is suspicious or cannot be explained or it occurs in questionable circumstances. In such cases the death will be attended to and investigated by Leicestershire Police.

The NPCC teams and Police Authorities of the 5 Police Forces of the East Midlands Region have agreed to the establishment of a Regional Review Unit, (RRU). This unit will have specific responsibilities for review throughout the region and will conduct reviews on a 3 tier priority basis in accordance with national best practice.
