Leicestershire Police fully endorses the principle of supporting all victims and witnesses, particularly those who are vulnerable or intimidated, to enable them to gain access to the criminal justice system.

This document endeavour to ensure the Force meets its aims, objectives and legal obligations. Therefore, in normal circumstances, all officers and staff are required to comply with Force Policies and Procedures. Officers and staff exercising discretion when operating in exceptional circumstances will be expected to account for the rationale for their actions.

Leicestershire Police understands that anti-social behaviour (ASB), the fear of ASB and the repercussions of ASB can have a serious effect on a community and peoples’ lives. Leicestershire Police takes all cases of ASB seriously and will make every effort to work with partners to prevent a repeat occurrence.

Leicestershire Police is required to remove vehicles for a variety of reasons using a range of powers under common and statute law. This is done by using the services of private recovery garages that have the necessary recovery vehicles, premises and supporting infrastructure required to remove all types of vehicles, store them and dispose of them in line with the legislation.

Stop and Search is an important tactic through which police officers can confirm or allay suspicions about individuals without exercising the power of arrest.

The overall purpose of Adult Out of Court Resolutions is to reduce crime, harm and demand through delivering well targeted and effective disposals which secure high-level of victim satisfaction and public confidence.

This policy lays out the conditions for the effective management of records by the Leicestershire Police for a legitimate policing purpose, by introducing and complying with the national minimum agreed standards for the retention of records.

The overall purpose of youth Out of Court Resolutions is to divert children and young people from the Criminal Justice System (CJS) thereby preventing unnecessary criminalisation and maximising the opportunities to prevent future crime, harm and demand. This is achieved through delivering well targeted, child-centred disposals which also secure high-level of victim satisfaction and public confidence.

Leicestershire Police has a duty to obtain and use a wide variety of information (including personal information) in order to discharge its responsibilities effectively. In compliance with the requirements of the statutory Code of Practice for the Management of Police Information, and associated Authorised Professional Practice for Information Management, the Force has adopted an Information Management Strategy.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that Leicestershire Police have a robust and efficient response to the investigation, administration and return of stolen vehicles. This replaces the previous arrangements, where an owner opted whether or not to allow their vehicle to be forensically examined. Upon recovery of a stolen vehicle it may require forensic examination to maximise the investigative opportunities and the potential for detection and apprehension of the offender.
