We have received numerous reports from the Belvoir Centre relating to general anti social behaviour from young people who are meeting in large numbers at the shopping centre. This is causing issues to local security and also members of the public using the facilities within the centre.
Issued 01 January 2025
The safety of all users and staff members at the shopping centre is a priority for the local beat team and we take all reports made to us seriously.
We have conducted a number of patrols in the area, both in conjunction with a focused ASB week and on-going patrols. We are liaising with the management at the centre as well as other partners and are looking at long term solutions to the issue and preventative measures.
Following some proactive measures in the centre including a dispersal order we have seen a reduction in the issues.
We have also worked closely with the security teams within the Belvoir Centre and following a change of contract soon we are looking forward to further improvements in the area.
The area will remain a priority going in to the New Year as we look to put longer standing measures in place in order to engage our youths and divert them from this behaviour.
Following further issues with young people in the town centre we have visited further young people with their parents and have issued warning letters and initiated anti-social behaviour contracts.
We are also working closely with partners to develop engagement opportunities with Sports Clubs.
We are continuing to have pockets of ASB within the town center and are working closely with security teams at the Belvoir Centre as well as local traders to ensure we are taking appropriate action.
We are also continuing to engage with the young people and their parents to try and combat this issue.
Partners are heavily involved and we are also progressing plans to implement diversionary activities to engage and educate our youth.
