Particular areas of concern include Abingdon Road (large numbers of young people gathering but numbers reducing), St James Rd and Evington Rd (street drinking), Onslow Park, picked up from patch walk with multi-agencies and Cllr on 15/10/24

We are pleased to inform the community that, following months of hard work and collaboration between officers and the council, significant progress has been made in addressing the ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB) on Evington Road and surrounding areas.
Through the use of a tiered approach, we have successfully issued Community Protection Notice (CPN) warnings to six individuals identified as frequent perpetrators of ASB. With these warnings now in place, we are able to issue fines to those responsible, ensuring there are tangible consequences for disruptive behaviour.
We are hopeful that these warning letters, alongside the implementation of exclusion areas, will help to reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour in the area. Our aim is to create a safer and more pleasant environment for all residents and visitors of Evington Road and surrounding streets.
A pod camera is to be installed on Abingdon Road at the beginning of March 2025 which is fantastic news. PSCO 6861 has worked with our police volunteer, Mezmin Malida, to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme with key, determined local residents. A public meeting is being organised too. We have had strong feedback that the groups loitering are lessening in frequency but our patrols continue (especially by our new additional PC 619 L'homme.
Please continue to report any ASB by emailing [email protected]
or by contacting local police via 101

Drug dealing (Abingdon Rd, Evington Footway, St James Rd), associated noise and accessing communal blocks (St Albans), littering of drugs packaging in open areas (Abingdon Road, Onslow Park)
Issued 05 January 2025
The team has been working tirelessly with the local council to facilitate the installation of pod cameras on Abingdon Road. Due to multiple hurdles, progress has been slow, but we are pleased to announce that we have now received the green light for a camera to be installed on Abingdon Road. We hope this will play a key role in preventing and detecting criminal activity in the area, as well as reducing anti-social behaviour (ASB). The installation is expected to take place within the next few weeks.
In terms of outcomes, comparing Feb-end of July 2024(six months – 38 occurrences, with 26 being non-crimes) to August-end of Jan 2025 (28 occurrences, with 17 being non-crimes) our efforts have contributed to a significant downward trend. We have had significant events (June and November) when we had stabbings at the junction with Abingdon Rd and Evington Rd. These were drug-related, we believe, over drug dealing territory. Consequently, our pro-active team (the Neighbourhood Priority Team or NPT) have worked consistently to target these people. This has resulted in the main county lines drug dealer being sent to prison for nearly three years. As least two of the ‘runners’ have been separately arrested and are awaiting charging decisions for Possession with Intent to Supply Class A and B drugs. Further intelligence and disruption are being pursued. The stabbings have also led to a significant number of arrests and several men are on police bail. A juvenile was recently stop searched, taken home, and had an offender management visit with his father.
In addition, there will be a meeting this month with residents and local agencies to discuss further steps to enhance public safety and reduce crime on Abingdon Road.
Finally, officers and police volunteers have now successfully created a neighbourhood watch scheme with local residents residing on Abingdon road to unite residents with police to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Concern on the Evington Road corridor in particular, and links of serious violence with young people across the beat
Issued 05 January 2025
It’s encouraging to see significant progress in reducing crime and weapon-related incidents within the Stoneygate ward. The latest statistics comparing 2023 to 2024 show impressive reductions across key offence categories:
**Violence Against the Person:** A reduction of 8%, with incidents dropping from **743** in 2023 to **685** in 2024.
**Public Order Offences:** A notable decrease of 20%, down from **252** in 2023 to **202** in 2024.
**Possession of Weapons:** A substantial reduction of 39%, with incidents falling from **23** in 2023 to **14** in 2024.
These positive trends reflect the dedication and effectiveness of ongoing crime reduction strategies in the area, and it’s reassuring to see such meaningful improvements in public safety.
Figures for Violence Against the Person, Feb-end of July 2024 (six months – 50 occurrences, with 20 being non-crimes) to August-end of Jan 2025 (39 occurrences, with 17 being non-crimes) our efforts have contributed to a significant downward trend.
The next opportunity to discuss these issues further and continue shaping the approach to community safety will be at the upcoming ward meeting on **28th April** at the Bowling Club on Kimberley Road. This will be an excellent chance for residents to engage, ask questions, and help continue the momentum in reducing crime further.
During the Ramadan holy month we will be conducting high visibility patrols and supporting partners from Licensing Enforcement and Traffic Enforcement from the Council to help create people celebrate safely. We look forward to seeing you out there!

Community patch walk with partners on 15/10/24 raised these road safety related issues. The summer period was not conducive to organising an effective campaign but plans in place to address this over the autumn and winter.

OP SYPHON, driven by PS Hall, was a notable success since the beginning of the year. This was a joint enterprise to include the NE15 beat in an education leading to enforcement style of road policing. The RPU helped us but it was East Leicester NPA PCs and PCSOs who delivered successful operations on a number of days – even requiring motorists to come into the rear yard at Spinney Hill police station to be issued with Traffic Offence Reports, words of advice, and vehicle seizures.
In March 2025 we are working in partnership with the Traffic Enforcement officers from Leicester City Council. PS Brown has met with their manager to ensure, in similarity to last year, that nuisance and inconsiderate parking on the streets around Evington Road and near to mosques are dealt with appropriately. We have worked with the local Councillor and have communicated with local mosques. This is to improve road safety and allow people to celebrate with family and friends safely.
We would like to inform residents of St James Road about ongoing efforts to address concerns regarding speeding on the road, which has been increasingly used as a shortcut from London Road. Residents have expressed their concerns to the local police team, particularly about vehicles driving at speed during key times to avoid traffic.
In response, the local police and highways team are working together to find a solution. The highways team have been contacted to explore possible measures to improve the situation. Additionally, the local beat team will be on St James Road throughout March with a speed detection monitor to address any instances of speeding and deter offending motorists
