Particular areas of concern include St James Road and its connected to local hostels. Evington Rd (Cleanliness, fly tipping, bin misuse, parking, bus stop CCTV), patch walks with multi-agencies, patrols, and Cllr meetings and local crim summit
Issued 01 April 2026
This month we have welcomed the installation of the new pod camera on St James Road. We anticipate that this will play an important role in preventing crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB), while also assisting in the gathering of evidence against those who continue to commit offences in the area.
We are aware of an increase in street drinking and related activity at the junction of St James Road and Evington Road. In response, a new ASB report has been created and officers will be identifying those involved and implementing an incremental approach to tackle the behaviour. Where individuals are found to be linked to local hostels, joint working with the council ASB team and hostel providers will be considered to help manage behaviour and support both residents and the wider community.

Drug dealing (South Highfields including Lincoln Street, Conduit Street, College St, Upper Tichborne Street)
Issued 01 April 2026
This month, work has been underway to address concerns around rough sleeping in and around Conduit Street, as well as the use of derelict buildings for drug use and dealing. A joint patch walk was conducted with officers and the council ASB team to identify areas being used for rough sleeping, allowing support to be offered to those involved. Information gathered has also been shared with relevant council teams to enable action to be taken to secure unsafe and derelict buildings.
While carrying out inquiries on Conduit Street, PC 1009 identified a male wanted by police. Following a short foot pursuit, the male was arrested for being wanted, and a further arrest was made after a small quantity of drugs was recovered.
Engagement work has also taken place with drug users in the area following reports of a potentially dangerous batch of drugs circulating locally, with the aim of reducing harm and signposting individuals to appropriate support services.
Just outside the immediate area of concern, officers attended a report of an abandoned, untaxed van. The vehicle was removed, and during this process a substantial quantity of cannabis and weighing scales were recovered from inside. It is believed the vehicle was being used to facilitate drug dealing, and inquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.

Road Safety. In particular, zig zag parking on Evington Road, junction blocking off this main strip, and inconsiderate parking around schools
Issued 01 April 2026
Road safety concerns on Evington Road and surrounding streets continue to be addressed through regular patrols and targeted enforcement activity. Officers have issued several Traffic Offence Reports for vehicles stopping within the confines of pedestrian crossings on Evington Road and Evington Valley Road, as well as for other road traffic offences across the beat area.
During the month of Ramadan, additional patrols were conducted to tackle parking issues and anti-social behaviour, particularly during peak evening periods. Officers engaged with members of the community, provided advice, and took enforcement action where individuals were found to be breaching road traffic legislation.
Local officers also responded to incidents involving assaults on traffic wardens on Evington Road during Ramadan, ensuring appropriate action was taken and support provided.
